Bilfinger provides Owner’s Engineering for BS Energy CHP plants

Key highlights
  • Three-year framework contract for Owner’s Engineering and inspection of BS Energy’s combined heat and power plants in Braunschweig.
  • Bilfinger will assume technical and planning responsibility for modifications, modernization, expansion and multi-trade inspections across the plants.
  • Planned measures target significant annual CO2 reductions and higher heat-generation efficiency using optimized exhaust-gas aftertreatment and advanced automation solutions.
  • BS Energy aims for greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045, currently sources about 35% of heat from renewables and targets 100% renewable heat in Lower Saxony by 2040.

Contract and objectives

Bilfinger has signed a three-year framework contract with BS Energy to provide Owner’s Engineering and inspection services for the operator’s existing combined heat and power (CHP) plants in Braunschweig. The collaboration is intended to ensure long-term security of energy supply and to optimise energy generation for efficiency and sustainability.

Scope of Bilfinger’s role

Bilfinger will carry technical and planning responsibility for modifications, modernisation and expansion of the CHP plants across all trades. Acting as Owner’s Engineer, the company will advise and support engineering across the entire plant lifecycle while overseeing quality, cost control and schedule adherence in the customer’s interest.

Decarbonisation measures and targets

The planned measures are intended to significantly reduce annual CO2 emissions and increase the energy efficiency of heat generation through steps such as optimized exhaust-gas aftertreatment systems and advanced automation solutions. BS Energy is pursuing greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045, currently obtains around 35% of its heat from renewable sources and targets 100% renewable heat in Lower Saxony by 2040, relying on a mix of renewables, district heating expansion, geothermal energy and hydrogen.
