BASF Upgrades Chloroformates and Acid Chlorides Production in Ludwigshafen

Investment and Modernization

BASF is set to modernize the infrastructure and production facilities for chloroformates and acid chlorides at its Ludwigshafen Verbund site. The company is investing a low three-digit million euro amount in this project. The modernization efforts are scheduled for completion by 2025.

Increased Production Capacity

Upon completion, the modernization will increase BASF's production capacity for these chemicals by approximately 30 percent. Currently, BASF has an annual capacity of 60,000 metric tons for chloroformates, acid chlorides, and alkyl chlorides, with production facilities in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Yeosu, Korea.

Product Applications

BASF offers around 30 individual products from the groups of chloroformates, acid chlorides, and alkyl chlorides. These chemicals are used in various applications, including synthesis building blocks for pharmaceuticals and crop protection products, as well as the production of organic peroxides. Organic peroxides are essential in manufacturing coating materials for solar panels and a wide range of everyday plastics.
