The sale of BASF’s Brazilian decorative paints business to Sherwin-Williams was finalized on October 1, 2025, after receiving approval from the Brazilian competition authority in August 2025. The transaction was valued at $1.15 billion on a cash and debt-free basis.

Included Assets

The deal encompassed production sites in Demarchi and Jaboatão, related contracts, the Suvinil and Glasu! brands, and approximately 1,000 employees. This business was BASF’s only significant B2C operation, with a diverse portfolio of paints, paint preparation products, and digital solutions.

Business Performance

In 2024, the decorative paints business generated sales of around $525 million (€485 million). Operating mainly in Brazil, it had limited synergies with other BASF coatings businesses.
