Project overview
Axens was selected as the technology licensor for America First Refining’s large-scale refinery at the Port of Brownsville, Texas, the first new U.S. refinery to be built in more than 50 years; Axens has been engaged on the project since 2017 to advance development of a next-generation facility.
Scope of Axens' role
Axens will supply refining technologies to support the facility’s design and operation, including systems aimed at improving overall performance and reducing energy consumption; specified process units include naphtha and diesel hydrotreating, continuous catalytic reforming and isomerization.
Feedstock and capacity
The refinery is designed to process 100% American light shale oil and is expected to handle more than 60 million barrels per year of domestic crude, producing gasoline, diesel and jet fuel at scale.
Location and strategic impact
Located at a deep-water port with access to global markets, the facility is positioned to strengthen domestic supply chains, support U.S. energy resilience and modernize national refining infrastructure while targeting low‑emission fuel production at scale.
