- Pre-FEED study for Australian eFuels Plant started in early 2025.
- Completion of Pre-FEED is scheduled for April 2026.
- The plant will produce synthetic fuels for maritime and aviation sectors.
- Australia imports over 80% of its liquid fuels.
Project Overview
Since early 2025, a pre-FEED study for an Australian eFuels Plant has been underway, led by Downer Group, CEA, and H2Potential under the FACET initiative. The plant aims to produce synthetic fuels for the maritime and aviation sectors, addressing critical industries for global decarbonisation and enhancing regional fuel security.
Energy and Technology
Australia imports over 80% of its liquid fuels, which account for more than half of the nation's final energy demand. The project will leverage Australia's abundant low-carbon renewable energy resources and cutting-edge technologies to produce secure, low-carbon eFuels.
Axens' Contribution
Axens, a global technology provider, joins the project to offer proven process technologies and industrial analysis. This collaboration enhances the capabilities of the project team, which includes Downer's construction expertise, CEA's research leadership in eFuel synthesis, and H2Potential's expertise in hydrogen development.
Timeline
The Pre-FEED study is scheduled for completion in April 2026, marking a significant step towards the development of advanced eFuels production pathways.
