Certification milestone

Aurubis Italia’s Avellino site completed The Copper Mark assurance process, becoming the first site in Italy and the eighth Aurubis site to achieve the award. The certification also completes The Copper Mark coverage across all four Aurubis rod plants.

Site production and customers

The Avellino plant produces highly conductive wire rod (Aurubis ROD) used as starting material for wire and cables for wind turbines, electric vehicles, electronics and electricity transmission. Bernardino Greco, Executive Director Project Management at the Avellino site, said the assessment confirms that responsible production is embedded in daily operations and decision-making and that the site contributes to building sustainable value chains while delivering expected quality and reliability.

Group coverage and framework

With Avellino certified, Aurubis’ network of Copper Mark-awarded sites spans all primary smelters, the majority of secondary smelters and fabricators, and the rod plants. The company has certified or recertified sites in Bulgaria, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands and participates in a global community of more than 130 sites under The Copper Mark, an assurance framework for copper, molybdenum, nickel and zinc that draws on the Responsible Minerals Initiative Risk Readiness Assessment criteria.
