Investment and Implementation
Aurubis AG has commissioned a new steam accumulator system at its Lünen site, investing approximately €10 million. The system was completed within budget and on schedule.
Energy Efficiency and Environmental Impact
The system significantly enhances energy efficiency by storing excess steam generated from copper production. This reduces the need for natural gas-powered boilers, saving about 2 million cubic meters of natural gas and 5,000 tons of CO₂ annually.
Economic Benefits
The new system is expected to contribute over €1 million to Aurubis Group’s EBITDA each year, demonstrating both environmental and economic advantages.
Funding and Strategic Goals
The project received funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) through the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA). It aligns with Aurubis’ Group-wide climate targets to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50% by 2030.
