BASF Adapzo Active classified as FRAC Group Code 56
- Flufenoxadiazam (Adapzo Active) is the industry’s first histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor.
- Designated sole representative of the newly established FRAC Group Code 56.
- Developed to control Asian soybean rust (ASR) in South America and shows no cross-resistance to known ASR solutions.
- Products based on Adapzo Active demonstrated yield gains of approximately six bags per hectare versus the current market standard.
FRAC classification
Adapzo Active (flufenoxadiazam) was designated by the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC) as a new and distinct mode of action and is the sole representative of the newly established FRAC Group Code 56; it is the industry’s first histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor.
Target and performance
Adapzo Active is intended to control Asian soybean rust (ASR) in South America, where unmanaged ASR can cause yield losses of up to ninety percent. Products based on Adapzo Active have demonstrated yield gains of approximately six bags per hectare compared with the current market standard and provide robust control of mutated fungal strains.
Mode of action and resistance management
The active ingredient inhibits fungal class II HDACs and is postulated to disrupt a coordinated gene-expression program required for formation of early infection structures, acting at an early stage to prevent infection initiation. The fungicide demonstrates no cross-resistance to known ASR solutions and, when applied according to label instructions, is reported to be compatible with non-target species and beneficials, supporting its use in resistance-management programmes.
