Expansion Agreement
Styron has announced an agreement with JSR to acquire its current production capacity rights at Styron’s rubber production hub in Schkopau, Germany. This move will double Styron's Solution Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SSBR) production capacity of one train.
Production Site Details
The Schkopau site currently operates eight world-scale rubber trains that supply tire manufacturers globally. Prior to this agreement, JSR held capacity rights to 50% of one of Styron’s three SSBR production trains at the site. Effective April 1, 2014, Styron will have full capacity rights to this train.
Strategic Growth
This expansion aligns with Styron’s rubber business growth strategy and provides a cost-effective solution to meet increasing customer demands. The company is well-positioned to capitalize on this opportunity as the owner of the Schkopau rubber complex.
Market Needs
In the current market, tire producers are focused on developing sustainable products that offer long life, fuel savings, and safety. SSBR is crucial for manufacturing tires with low rolling resistance, excellent wet grip, and abrasion resistance.
