Investment and Location
Cheil Industries, a subsidiary of Samsung, has opened its European research center at Industriepark Höchst, investing around one million euros. The facility, spanning 350 m², is the only Samsung Cheil Industries research center in Europe.
Research Focus
The center will focus on developing and testing new materials for flat-screen monitors, heat-resistant polymers for electronic applications, and components for water filtration. Fourteen researchers will be working at the facility.
Timeline and Infrastructure
The lab was operational after only one year of planning. Industriepark Höchst was chosen for its excellent traffic links, proximity to an international airport, a large network of scientists, and a wide range of infrastructure services. Laboratory designers at Infraserv Höchst played a significant role in outfitting the laboratories.
Research Activities
Samsung researchers will develop new polymers for automobiles and electronic applications, as well as dyes for displays. The lab work aims to find better acrylate formulations to provide more brilliant colors on TVs, smartphone displays, and computer monitors. Additionally, the center will optimize membrane filtration systems for water treatment, using flow simulations and other process engineering methods to design and configure plant components efficiently.
