RIFT Development B.V. (RIFT) is a Netherlands-based clean energy technology company focused on decarbonizing industrial process heat using iron fuel. The company develops systems that enable factories to replace natural gas and other fossil fuels in high-temperature applications with a circular metal energy carrier.
RIFT’s technology combusts finely milled iron powder to generate high-grade heat, producing solid iron oxide (rust) instead of direct CO₂ emissions. The oxidized material can be regenerated back to metallic iron using renewable hydrogen, closing the loop and enabling repeated use of the fuel. RIFT designs iron-fuel boilers along with storage, feeding, and regeneration solutions engineered to integrate with existing steam and thermal infrastructure.
The company targets sectors that require reliable, on-demand heat—such as chemicals, food and beverage, and building materials—where full electrification is challenging.
