The Rugby Football Union (RFU) is the national governing body for rugby union in England. Established in 1871 and based at Twickenham Stadium in London, it oversees the sport from grassroots participation to elite pathways, including regulations, player welfare, and standards for coaching and officiating.
The RFU organizes domestic competitions such as the RFU Championship and the County Championship, supports clubs and community programs, and manages the England men’s and women’s national teams in collaboration with leagues and other stakeholders. It also owns and operates Twickenham Stadium, hosting international fixtures and major events.
The organization is a not-for-profit, member-based body funded through match revenues, commercial partnerships, and reinvestment into the game’s development across England.
