PETRONAS Masela Sdn. Bhd.

PETRONAS Masela Sdn. Bhd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), Malaysia's national oil and gas company established in 1974.

The company was formed to hold and manage a 15 percent participating interest in the Masela Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for the Masela Block in the Arafura Sea, eastern Indonesia. In 2023, it acquired this stake from Shell Upstream Overseas Services (I) Limited in a joint transaction with PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Masela, which holds 20 percent, while INPEX Masela Ltd. serves as the operator with a 65 percent interest.

Its core activities center on upstream exploration and production, specifically contributing to the development of the Abadi gas field. This includes participation in the construction of floating production facilities, subsea infrastructure, an onshore LNG plant with integrated carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology, and associated pipelines. The project, designated as an Indonesian National Strategic Project, targets annual production of approximately 9.5 million tonnes of LNG, 150 million standard cubic feet per day of pipeline gas, and 35,000 barrels per day of condensate.

Operating within PETRONAS' broader international upstream portfolio, PETRONAS Masela supports the group's expansion in Southeast Asia and contributes to regional energy security initiatives. The PSC runs until 2055, positioning the entity in long-term gas development in one of Indonesia's largest untapped fields.
