PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Masela is an Indonesian upstream oil and gas company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), the upstream subholding of PT Pertamina (Persero). It holds a 20% participating interest in the Masela Block Production Sharing Contract in eastern Indonesia.
The company is a joint venture partner in the INPEX-operated Abadi LNG and CCS Project, developing the Abadi gas field in the Arafura Sea. This National Strategic Project includes deepwater production facilities such as an FPSO, subsea umbilicals, risers, and flowlines, along with an onshore LNG plant integrated with carbon capture and storage technology—the first Indonesian LNG project to incorporate CCS from the development stage with cost recovery under the PSC framework.
Located approximately 170-180 kilometers southwest of the Tanimbar Islands in Maluku Province, the project targets production of 9.5 million metric tons of LNG annually, 150 million standard cubic feet per day of domestic pipeline gas, and 35,000 barrels per day of condensate. The PSC extends until 2055.
Alongside INPEX Masela Ltd. (65% interest, operator) and PETRONAS Masela Sdn. Bhd. (15%), PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Masela supports Indonesia's energy security goals, regional economic growth in eastern Indonesia, and low-carbon energy initiatives. It operates as part of the Pertamina Group's upstream portfolio focused on exploration, development, and production of oil and gas resources.
