North Sea Port

About North Sea Port

North Sea Port is a cross‑border port authority and port area spanning Belgium and the Netherlands, integrating the seaports and industrial zones around Ghent (Belgium) and Terneuzen and Vlissingen (Netherlands). It was established in 2018 through the merger of Port of Ghent and Zeeland Seaports and operates along the Ghent–Terneuzen Canal and the Western Scheldt estuary. The organization is publicly owned by regional and local authorities.

North Sea Port functions as a landlord port, granting land concessions and developing nautical access, quays, terminals, logistics zones, and pipeline corridors. It supports cargo handling across dry and liquid bulk, breakbulk, and containers, with multimodal connectivity via sea, inland waterways, rail, road, and pipelines to the European hinterland.

The port hosts a large industrial cluster with significant chemical, energy, and fuel storage activities, including production, processing, and distribution of petrochemicals, bio‑based inputs, and other industrial feedstocks. Strategic focus areas include the energy transition, hydrogen infrastructure, carbon management, and circular economy initiatives. North Sea Port serves as a key gateway for raw materials and finished products for industries in the Benelux and wider Northwest Europe.
