Misr Phosphate Company is a leading Egyptian producer of phosphate rock concentrate, specializing in the exploration, mining, processing, and export of phosphate ore from major deposits across the country.
Established in October 2009 under Egyptian Law 159 of 1981 as a joint stock company, it is fully owned by four Egyptian state-affiliated shareholders: the National Investment Bank, the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA), the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), and GANOPE. The company operates key mining sites including the vast Abu Tartour plateau (220 km² concession granted by presidential decree in 2019) in the New Valley Governorate, as well as mines in the Red Sea region and El-Sebaiya in the Nile Valley.
With an annual production capacity of approximately 5 million tons of phosphate rock concentrate (various grades up to 31% P₂O₅), it accounts for a significant portion of Egypt's phosphate output and exports, holding around 40% of the domestic market share. It is also a major shareholder (20%) in the Egyptian Marketing Company for Phosphate and Fertilizers (EMPHCO), which handles exports.
Beyond raw ore production, Misr Phosphate participates in downstream value-added initiatives, including a 25% stake in the El Wady for Phosphate Industries & Fertilizers (WAPHCO) phosphoric acid complex at Abu Tartour and involvement in a joint venture with India's Indorama for a fertilizer plant in Ain Sokhna. Headquartered in Nasr City, Cairo, the company supports Egypt's efforts to increase domestic processing of mineral resources while supplying international markets.
