Midrex Technologies, Inc. is a U.S.-based process technology company specializing in the direct reduction of iron (DRI) for the steel industry. It develops and licenses the MIDREX Process, a continuous shaft furnace technology that converts iron ore into direct reduced iron or hot briquetted iron (HBI) using a reducing gas composed of hydrogen and carbon monoxide derived from natural gas or hydrogen.

Midrex provides process design, key equipment, control systems, start-up assistance, and operational support, working with engineering and construction partners to deliver plants worldwide. Its technology is widely deployed to supply DRI/HBI to electric arc furnace steelmakers and is used in configurations that enable significant CO2 reductions compared with traditional blast furnace routes. Hydrogen-enabled variants (often referred to as H2-MIDREX) allow further decarbonization when supplied with low-carbon hydrogen and renewable electricity. Midrex is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kobe Steel, Ltd.
