Umicore inaugurated a 3,600 m² innovation center in the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, Shanghai — its first corporate R&D facility outside Europe.

Scope and focus

The center will host R&D projects with an initial focus on fuel cell applications and recycling technologies, and will expand into catalysis for renewable energy and stationary applications, including CO₂ capture and hydrogen production.

Collaboration

The facility will drive projects within Umicore’s global research portfolio and foster collaboration with local universities, research institutes, industry partners and the company’s production and technology teams.
