- Ehime and Nagoya plants received ISCC PLUS certification in September and December 2025.
- Certification allows use of biomass and recycled materials in PBT and LCP resins.
- ISCC PLUS ensures control and traceability in global supply chains.
- Toray's other certified sites include Tokai, Chiba, Korea, and Malaysia.
Certification Achievement
Toray Industries, Inc. announced that its Ehime and Nagoya plants have obtained ISCC PLUS certification for TORAYCON™ polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin and SIVERAS™ liquid crystal polyester (LCP) resin. The Ehime Plant uses a polymerization process, while the Nagoya Plant employs a compounding process.
ISCC PLUS Program
The ISCC PLUS program utilizes a mass balance approach to ensure proper control and traceability in global supply chains for products made from biomass or recycled materials. This certification allows the plants to incorporate these materials while maintaining the characteristics and physical properties of PBT and LCP resins made from fossil-based feedstocks.
Expansion of Certified Sites
Toray has previously obtained ISCC PLUS certification for other resin products at its Nagoya, Tokai, and Chiba plants, as well as at Toray Advanced Materials Korea Inc. and Toray Plastics (Malaysia) Sdn. Berhad. The new supply systems at the Ehime and Nagoya plants will expand Toray’s product lineup, aiding customers in reducing their carbon footprints.
Mass Balance Approach
The mass balance approach involves mixing raw materials with specific characteristics, such as biomass-derived, with other materials like petroleum-derived ones during processing and distribution. Characteristics are assigned to part of a product based on the input proportions of these raw materials.
