- The project will produce up to 800,000 tonnes/year of green ammonia by 2031.
- The total investment for the project is over 1,400 million euros.
- The project will create 100 direct and 1,200 indirect jobs.
- The plant will be located near the Port of Castellón for international distribution.
Project Overview
Antonio Sieira, CEO of IGNIS, and Carlos Mazón, President of the Generalitat of Valencia, along with other officials, have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a green hydrogen and ammonia project in Castelló de la Plana. The project will focus on processing and storing green hydrogen and ammonia from renewable sources.
Production and Investment
The project, divided into three phases, aims to produce up to 800,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year. This ammonia will primarily be used for the decarbonization of industrial consumption in Europe. The total investment for the project is expected to exceed 1,400 million euros, with completion targeted around 2031.
Job Creation
The project is anticipated to create 100 direct jobs necessary for the plant's operation and approximately 1,200 indirect jobs. This will provide significant employment opportunities in the region.
Location and Distribution
The production unit, where hydrogen will be generated and transformed into ammonia, will be situated on land adjacent to the Port of Castellón. The storage of green ammonia will be located within the port facilities, facilitating its sale to international markets by sea.
Environmental Impact
This initiative is expected to prevent the emission of more than 2 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. It will also generate multiple environmental, business, economic, and social benefits, acting as a catalyst for the renewable energy sector in the Valencian Community, Spain, and Europe.
