Key highlights
  • The Tengiz Gas Separation Complex is developed by KMGPetrochem, a KazMunaiGas subsidiary.
  • The facility will recover at least 98% of ethane from dry gas.
  • Tecnimont is responsible for engineering, procurement, and commissioning.
  • The project supports the second phase of the Silleno petrochemical complex.

Project Overview

The Tengiz Gas Separation Complex (GSC) project, located in the Atyrau Region, is spearheaded by KMGPetrochem, a subsidiary of KazMunaiGas. The project involves engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning, with Tecnimont primarily handling engineering, procurement, and commissioning tasks.

Technical Details

The facility is designed to recover at least 98% of ethane from dry gas. The output will support the second phase of the Silleno petrochemical complex, which focuses on polyethylene production. This marks a significant milestone for Kazakhstan, introducing technologies and scale previously unseen in the country.

Local Engagement

To foster local industry involvement, Tecnimont and CCIC, in collaboration with PetroCouncil, launched the “Local Content in the GSC Project” forum. The event attracted around 400 Kazakh companies, local authorities, and stakeholders, offering workshops, seminars, and networking sessions to equip participants with essential tools and knowledge.

Strategic Importance

The Tengiz and Silleno projects are pioneering efforts aimed at strengthening Kazakhstan's petrochemical sector. The initiatives are seen as crucial for integrating with the local market and promoting economic development in the Atyrau community.
