Investment and Facility Details

Siemens Mobility is investing €35 million in a new production facility for rail vehicle battery systems in Luhe-Wildenau, Bavaria. The facility will span 20,000 square meters and employ up to 200 people. Of the total investment, €22 million is provided by Siemens Mobility, with an additional €2.7 million from Bavarian funding programs.

Timeline and Production

Construction of the facility is scheduled for completion in spring 2027, with series production set to begin in October 2027. The plant will produce up to 120 megawatt-hours of battery capacity annually, operating in three shifts.

Technology and Partnerships

The facility will produce complete battery systems, including an innovative Battery Management System (BMS) developed with Munich-based Stercom. Battery cells will be sourced from suppliers like Toshiba, while Siemens Mobility will handle system integration. The BMS ensures safe operation and maximizes efficiency and service life.

Regional Impact

The project strengthens Luhe-Wildenau as an industrial location and supports the transport transition in Germany. It builds on existing battery system pre-assembly expertise in the region, enhancing local employment and technological development.
