Strategic Partnership
Bilfinger and Munich-based cleantech startup Reverion have signed a letter of intent to collaborate on sustainable biogas plants. The partnership aims to bring Reverion's modular power plant technology, based on fuel cells, to the market and expand it on an industrial scale.
Innovative Technology
Reverion's patented technology enables efficient power generation from biogas with high electrical efficiency, generation and storage of green hydrogen or synthetic natural gas, and cost-effective CO2 capture. The technology aims to achieve up to 80% electrical efficiency and can operate in reversible mode to produce and store renewable gases during surplus wind and solar power periods.
Pilot Phase and Implementation
Upon completion of the pilot phase in 2023, the 100 kW systems will go into series production. Bilfinger will support the conversion of existing biogas plants to the new technology with comprehensive industrial services, including pipeline construction, installation of process technology components, production of special components, and instrumentation and electrical engineering.
Energy Transition
Biogas is a crucial part of the energy transition, providing secure baseload and balancing power for intermittent renewables like wind and photovoltaics. Conventional biogas plants have limitations in efficiency and storage, but Reverion's technology offers a flexible and economically superior solution, making the entire process significantly carbon negative by capturing or converting CO2.
