Project scope and infrastructure

Viva Energy refurbished a 3.3 million litre tank at its Pinkenba Terminal to store, blend, test and deliver Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) directly into Brisbane Airport’s existing Joint User Hydrant Installation (JUHI). The installation enables blended lower‑emissions aviation fuel to be supplied to aircraft through the airport’s current fuel supply system.

Certification, tracking and carbon accounting

The project integrates internationally recognised certification and an accounting system to track and account for environmental benefits, enabling airlines and corporate customers to acquire or retire ISCC Scope 1 and Scope 3 certificates. Viva Energy will deploy Fuel Central by NoviqTech as a digital mass‑balance platform to track SAF use and sustainability credentials from terminal to aircraft.

Context and next steps

Viva Energy calls the facility the first of its kind connected to an Australian airport and says it lays groundwork for a potential domestic SAF manufacturing industry in Queensland. The company is also commissioning a dedicated SAF blending and storage facility in Newport, Melbourne, and has previously supplied SAF to RAAF demonstrations in November 2023, a 12‑month RAAF pilot at East Sale, Virgin Australia flights from Proserpine, and the general aviation market.
