Its role Offtaker

EcoCeres is a Hong Kong-headquartered producer of renewable fuels and green molecules made exclusively from 100% waste-based feedstocks. The company converts used cooking oil, animal fats, and other waste lipids into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO or renewable diesel), and bio-naphtha through its proprietary hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) process.

EcoCeres operates industrial-scale facilities in Zhangjiagang, China (commissioned 2017, 350,000 tonnes per annum capacity) and Pasir Gudang, Johor, Malaysia (first SAF plant in the country, adding significant capacity). Combined renewable fuels output reaches approximately 770,000 tonnes per year. Its SAF meets ASTM D7566 standards, is drop-in compatible with existing aircraft and infrastructure, and is certified under ISCC and RSB ICAO CORSIA schemes, delivering lifecycle GHG reductions of up to 94.4% versus fossil jet fuel.

The company supplies SAF to leading airlines and distributors worldwide, including British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Air New Zealand, and Viva Energy in Australia for storage, blending, and distribution. It holds a prominent position among global SAF producers by volume and focuses on decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors such as aviation and road transport.

EcoCeres was incubated by Hong Kong & China Gas (Towngas) starting in 2008 and remains a strategic investment for the utility. It is backed by private equity investors including Bain Capital (significant stake acquired 2023), Kerogen Capital, CPP Investments, and Full Vision Capital. The company is privately held with reported plans for a Hong Kong IPO.
