Project Overview

Stora Enso is establishing a new board line in Oulu, Finland, with the foundation stone laid on 30 May. The facility, set to be operational by 2025, will produce up to 750,000 tonnes of renewable packaging materials annually from northern forest fiber.

Sustainability and Circularity

The new board line aims to replace plastics with renewable materials, ensuring all packaging is recyclable and low in emissions. The investment aligns with Stora Enso’s sustainability commitments, enhancing the recycling performance of their Packaging Materials division.

Economic Impact

The project will create approximately 300 direct jobs at the mill and in support functions, with an additional 1,500 indirect employment opportunities. The Oulu site’s greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by 80% during the first conversion in 2021, maintaining low levels for the new facility.
