Deal terms
Statkraft and Alcoa have signed two new power agreements that cover deliveries of approximately 4.8 TWh of electricity during 2028–2031 to secure electricity supply for Alcoa’s aluminium plant at Lista. The contracts are presented as providing a solid and predictable energy foundation to support continued operation of the smelter.
Operational context
Production Line 2 at Lista recently completed a restart at 31,000 metric tonnes per annum as part of ramping the plant toward its 95,000 tpa nameplate capacity. The restart was described as an important milestone, and the companies state that access to reliable and competitively priced power is essential for continued operations.
Strategic and regional significance
The agreement highlights the importance of predictable regulatory frameworks and long-term access to power for power‑intensive sectors such as aluminium production. Statkraft says it aims to support continued activity and value creation in the region through this agreement and other supply contracts and development plans in Southwest Norway (NO2).
Statements from the parties
Alcoa’s Operations Manager at Lista, Tor Arne Berg, said restarting operations was an important milestone and that access to stable power is absolutely essential for taking the next step. Statkraft’s Executive Vice President Markets noted Alcoa is the latest of several large industrial companies to enter long-term power agreements this year, saying the demand confirms the power market is functioning and that Statkraft delivers competitive terms and power supply in line with industry needs.
