SONATRACH and VNG sign natural gas supply contract for Germany from Jan 2027

Contract and timing
The two companies signed a contract on 16 July 2026 to expand natural gas deliveries to the German market, with deliveries scheduled to begin on 1 January 2027.

The agreement was signed by Nour Eddine Daoudi, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of the SONATRACH Group, and Ulf Heitmüller, Chairman of the Executive Board of VNG. The ceremony was co‑chaired by Mohamed Arkab, State Minister and Minister of Hydrocarbons, and Frank Wetzel, German State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, with Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, in attendance.
Related cooperation
The companies are partners in the "Algeria to Europe Hydrogen Alliance" (ALTEH2A) and the "SoutH2 Corridor" project, which aim to produce hydrogen in Algeria for export to Europe. They also have a Memorandum of Understanding to explore cooperation on green hydrogen and on reducing methane emissions.
Significance
The deal reinforces the business relationship between the two firms and is presented as further evidence of strong Algeria–Germany cooperation in energy supply and hydrogen development.
