Agreement

SONATRACH and the German company VNG AG signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore opportunities for cooperation in areas of common interest, notably green hydrogen and reduction of methane emissions. The signing took place at SONATRACH headquarters.

Scope and objectives

The parties plan to explore new synergies and implement concrete actions, with particular focus on development of green hydrogen and ammonia projects and on measures to reduce methane emissions. The MoU expresses a mutual commitment to addressing decarbonization challenges in the hydrocarbons sector and to underpinning the transition to neutral energy sources.

Background and signatories

The MoU follows discussions under a previous Memorandum of Understanding signed on 20 December 2022. The signing was attended by SONATRACH Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Nour Eddine Daoudi, VNG Chairman of the Executive Board Ulf Heitmüller, and VNG board member Hans‑Joachim Polk.
