Sinopec's Largest South China Solar Project Begins Power Generation

Key highlights
  • The project in Guangxi has a planned installed capacity of 100 MW.
  • It includes a 10 MW/20 MWh energy storage system.
  • The project uses 1,600 mu of fish ponds for solar and aquaculture.
  • It provides green electricity to Beihai Refinery.

Project Overview

Sinopec's largest photovoltaic project in South China has connected its first 17.1 MW generating units to the grid. Located in Hepu County, Beihai City, the project is a significant initiative for both Sinopec and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with a planned total capacity of 100 MW.

Innovative Use of Resources

The project utilizes 1,600 mu of fish ponds, creating a dual-purpose model of "water surface power generation, underwater aquaculture." This approach enhances power generation efficiency through water cooling and improves the aquaculture environment with the shade provided by photovoltaic panels.

Energy Storage and Distribution

To ensure stability and reliability, the project includes a 10 MW/20 MWh energy storage system. It operates in a "full network" mode, supplying a substantial amount of green electricity to the Beihai Refinery, thereby increasing the proportion of green energy used by enterprises.

Strategic Importance

This project is a key part of Sinopec's strategy to build a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient new energy system. It also provides valuable experience for Xinxing Company in expanding its presence in the external new energy market.
