- Bidding for Qingdao LNG terminal's cold-energy cascade project was awarded to the Petroleum Engineering Design Company and the project has entered detailed design and construction.
- The project will install a dedicated cascade device integrating a low-temperature single Rankine cycle and high-efficiency intermediate medium heat exchange to recover LNG cold energy during gasification.
- The cold-energy power-generation module can generate up to 26 million kWh per year by converting low-temperature energy released during LNG gasification into electricity.
- A cold-energy air-conditioning module will supply process and building cooling to cut grid electricity use and associated CO2 emissions, providing a scalable model for other LNG terminals.
Project status
On May 19 the Qingdao LNG receiving terminal completed bidding for an LNG cold-energy cascade utilization demonstration project; the Petroleum Engineering Design Company won the contract and the project has entered detailed design and construction.
Technical approach
The scheme installs a dedicated cascade device that combines a low-temperature single Rankine cycle and a high-efficiency intermediate-medium heat-exchange system to recover cold energy released during LNG gasification for power generation and facility cooling.
Performance and impact
The power-generation module is expected to produce up to 26 million kWh/year by converting low-temperature cold energy into electricity; the air-conditioning module will supply stable cooling to plant areas and buildings, replacing electric-driven AC and reducing grid electricity use and CO2 emissions, with the design intended as a replicable, scalable model for other domestic LNG terminals.
