Sinopec Group advances CCER pilot gas‑flaring recovery projects

Key highlights
  • Two pilot gas flaring gas recovery CCER projects were developed for Southwest Oil and Gas Company and North China Oil and Gas Company.
  • Both projects connected to the national carbon market management platform and completed on‑site audits.
  • The projects have entered the emission reduction registration stage; next steps are audit rectification, emission‑reduction accounting reports and submission for registration.
  • Carbon Science Company formed a project team, built identification and measurement models, provided full‑process development services, and will summarise experience to expand carbon asset reserves.

Project status

Carbon Science Company has made phased progress on two pilot gas flaring gas recovery CCER projects for Southwest Oil and Gas Company and North China Oil and Gas Company. Both projects have connected to the national carbon market management platform and completed on‑site audits, marking a key step for the Group's carbon asset development in the oil and gas sector.

Development approach and challenges

The Carbon Science Company formed a project team to survey and screen the Group's oilfield enterprises, built models to identify emission‑reduction projects and measure emission reductions, and initially screened projects with development potential. After the CCER restart, the team confronted strict audit standards, long process chains and high professional thresholds, and provided full‑process development services including project identification and surveys for the two oil and gas companies.

Next steps and objectives

The two projects have entered the emission reduction registration stage and will complete audit rectification, prepare emission‑reduction accounting reports and submit for registration. Carbon Science Company will systematically summarise practical experience across the CCER development chain, explore emission‑reduction potential in pilot gas flaring recovery and energy‑saving/carbon‑reduction measures at oilfields, expand carbon asset reserves and pursue the green value realisation route of “emission reduction—accounting—development—trading”.
