Overview
From March 16 to May 12 SABIC will carry out a large turnaround at Chemelot. The naphtha cracker Olefins 4 and various other installations will be temporarily taken out of operation for thorough maintenance, legal inspections and improvements.
Programme and frequency
These large maintenance stops supplement the regular maintenance every six years and require long, careful preparation. The works aim to ensure Olefins 4 and the other installations can continue to run in a safe and reliable way.
Flaring and local impact
Flaring is expected especially at the beginning and end of the maintenance to safely go out of and back into operation; SABIC says it will do everything to limit the duration and extent of the flaring as much as possible. Hundreds of extra people will temporarily work on site and many materials will be delivered, which can lead to extra traffic pressure on roads around Chemelot; SABIC is taking measures to spread that traffic.
