Repsol, Toyota, BMW and Bosch pilot cars on 100% renewable gasoline

Key highlights
  • Six-month pilot launched in Spain in July 2026 involving Repsol, Toyota Motor Europe, BMW Group and Bosch.
  • Around 20 Toyota and BMW vehicles will run exclusively on Repsol’s Nexa 95 100% renewable gasoline produced from RED-compliant feedstocks.
  • Bosch supplies the Digital Fuel Twin system to collect and validate refuelling data from vehicles, stations and fuel card transactions.
  • Pilot aims to prove market availability, digital certification readiness and operational deployment of renewable fuels using existing infrastructure.

Pilot overview

Repsol, Toyota Motor Europe, BMW Group and Bosch have launched a six-month pilot in Spain that began in early July 2026 to demonstrate vehicles operating exclusively on 100% renewable gasoline. The fleet comprises about 20 Toyota and BMW passenger cars running on Repsol’s Nexa 95 renewable gasoline.

Objectives

The project targets three outcomes: verify market availability of renewable gasoline using Repsol’s public-station infrastructure, validate digital tracking and certification via Bosch’s Digital Fuel Twin, and demonstrate operational deployment of VEEF fleets on existing vehicles and refuelling infrastructure.

Technology and operations

Bosch’s system will collect and validate refuelling data from vehicle telematics, fuel stations and fuel card transactions to certify renewable fuel use across its lifecycle. The pilot uses existing Toyota and Lexus cars provided by Toyota España and BMW fleet vehicles, underlining the drop-in compatibility of the fuel without new hardware or station investment.

Policy and outputs

Repsol says Nexa 95 is RED-compliant and offers substantial GHG reductions versus fossil gasoline. Partners will share data and intermediate findings with EU policymakers and stakeholders to inform debates on technology neutrality and the role of renewable fuels alongside electrification in meeting decarbonisation goals.
