Exploration and production rights for the Ahara Block were granted to a consortium comprising QatarEnergy (effective interest 24.5%), TotalEnergies (effective interest 24.5% and operator during the exploration phase), and Sonatrach (effective interest 51%).

The Ahara Block lies in eastern Algeria at the intersection of the Berkine and Illizi Basins and covers an area of approximately 14,900 km².

QatarEnergy’s President and CEO, H.E. Mr. Saad Sherida Al‑Kaabi, said the award marks the company’s first entry into Algeria’s upstream sector and expands its footprint in Africa. He also congratulated and thanked the Algerian Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies and ALNAFT on the bid-round management and said he looks forward to a collaborative exploration effort with the Ministry alongside ALNAFT, Sonatrach, and TotalEnergies.
