Regulatory context

At the end of July 2026 the EU confirmed the new End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation, introducing binding minimum quotas for recycled plastics in vehicles: 15% by weight in new vehicle models by 2032, rising to 25% by weight from 2036.

Product response

Röhm offers the PLEXIGLAS® proTerra portfolio as a response for automotive customers. The range combines the established virgin-material quality of PLEXIGLAS® with a reduced carbon footprint; depending on grade, material content is either mechanically recycled PMMA or sustainably certified raw materials. CEO-level commentary notes the company prepared for this scenario and can support customers with the proTerra portfolio.

Automotive applications

PLEXIGLAS® PMMA is used broadly in vehicles for transparent and coloured components, including lamp covers, light guides, lenses, decorative trims and exterior body parts; proTerra is positioned to supply these demanding applications while meeting recycled-content requirements.

Circular-economy initiative

Röhm has launched a Europe-wide recycling alliance with industry partners to advance collection, recycling and recovery solutions for PMMA plastics, aiming to make larger volumes of high-quality recycled material available for demanding applications and inviting interested companies to participate.
