Plenitude Launches 150 MW Solar Plant in Spain

Key highlights
  • The Caparacena solar plant in Granada spans 264 hectares with three 50 MW parks.
  • It generates approximately 320 GWh of electricity annually.
  • Archaeological monitoring revealed a 6th century BC Iberian necropolis.
  • Plenitude's Spanish portfolio now totals nearly 1.5 GW of installed capacity.

Project Overview

The Caparacena solar project, located in Chimeneas and Ventas de Huelma, Granada, covers 264 hectares and consists of three photovoltaic parks, each with a capacity of 50 MW. The plant is expected to generate approximately 320 GWh of electricity annually, contributing significantly to renewable energy production in the region.

Archaeological Discovery

During the construction of the Caparacena solar plant, archaeological monitoring led to the discovery of an Iberian necropolis dating back to the 6th century BC. This find included funerary ceramic urns and period artifacts, enhancing the cultural heritage of Andalusia and preserving a significant historical site.

Expansion in Andalusia

With the start of operations at Caparacena, Plenitude expands its presence in Andalusia. The company already operates the Guillena photovoltaic plant in Seville, with a capacity of 230 MW, and is advancing the construction of the 200 MW Entrenúcleos project. These initiatives support the region's energy transition and consolidate Plenitude's growth in Spain's renewable energy sector.
