Plastic Energy has transferred its stake in the TotalEnergies Plastic Energy Advanced Recycling (TEPEAR) plant to TotalEnergies. The move is described as the first concrete step in a strategic restructuring of Plastic Energy’s asset base following founder Carlos Monreal’s return as Chief Executive Officer.
Plant and capability
The TEPEAR plant sits inside TotalEnergies’ zero‑crude Grandpuits complex outside Paris and became operational in March 2026. It is capable of recycling 15,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year and will continue to operate at industrial scale under full TotalEnergies ownership.
Technology and agreements
The plant will continue to use Plastic Energy’s proprietary TAC™ recycling technology under a continuing licence and technology agreement. TAC™ converts hard‑to‑recycle plastic waste into a circular alternative to fossil‑based feedstocks.
Ongoing operations and focus
Plastic Energy will retain and operate its recycling plants in Almeria and Seville in Spain and its joint venture plant, SABIC Plastic Energy Advanced Recycling (SPEAR), in the Netherlands. CEO Carlos Monreal said the company will focus on operational excellence at TAC™ sites, scaling up its Spanish plants, deepening value‑chain partnerships and advancing the technology to help close the global plastic value chain.
