Petrobras uses technical corn oil in asphalt production
- Since June, Henrique Lage Refinery (Revap) has used technical corn oil (TCO) to produce the asphalt binder CAP Pro R.
- Revap has produced 95,000 tons of asphalt with renewable content using TCO since the change.

Change implemented
Since June, Petrobras’ Henrique Lage Refinery (Revap) in São José dos Campos has included technical corn oil (TCO) as a sustainable raw material for producing the asphalt binder CAP Pro R. Production using TCO has reached 95,000 tons of asphalt with renewable content.
Feedstock and sourcing
TCO is described as a semi‑refined residual oil obtained from processing corn destined for ethanol production and is currently acquired from Inpasa. Petrobras notes TCO is a 100% renewable input previously used in advanced fuels such as SAF and Diesel R.
Product line and emissions
CAP Pro R is part of Petrobras’ line of more sustainable asphalts focused on performance and lower lifecycle carbon intensity. Petrobras highlights that petroleum asphalt cement is not intended for burning and that, once applied, carbon remains fixed throughout the material’s useful life.

Petrobras executives framed the move as expanding renewable raw materials and diversifying lower‑carbon products, while a supplier emphasised TCO’s role in decarbonization and circular‑economy integration.
