Project Overview

PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG) has reached the final investment decision to build Asia's largest advanced chemical recycling plant in Pengerang, Johor. The facility will have a capacity of 33 kilo-tonnes per annum and is expected to be operational by the first half of 2026.

Technology and Process

The plant will utilize Plastic Energy's patented technology to convert end-of-life plastics into pyrolysis oil, also known as TACOIL™. This oil can be used as a chemical feedstock for producing sustainable plastics, supporting the transition to a circular economy.

Partnerships and Agreements

PCG has signed a Technology License Agreement with Plastic Energy Limited and awarded the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contract to Mutiara Etnik Sdn. Bhd. These partnerships aim to enhance Malaysia's recycling infrastructure and capabilities.

Strategic Goals

The project aligns with Malaysia's Plastic Sustainability Roadmap 2021-2030, aiming to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable packaging solutions. The plant will contribute to a sustainable plastics ecosystem by closing the loop in the plastics life cycle.
