ORLEN starts production at Idun Nord, Alve Nord and Ørn in Skarv area

Start-up and project delivery

ORLEN Upstream Norway has commenced gas production from Idun Nord; Alve Nord and Ørn will be brought on stream gradually over the coming weeks. The three fields were developed as an integrated project using shared infrastructure, which shortened the schedule and reduced costs, enabling production to start one year earlier than originally planned.

Scale and contribution

The development is expected to add approximately 30 million boe to ORLEN’s production portfolio, the majority being natural gas, and to supply more than 4 billion cubic meters of gas. Combined recoverable resources across the three fields are 120 million boe on a gross basis, with more than 30 million boe attributable to ORLEN; Ørn contributes about 22 million boe net. Once all three are producing, ORLEN’s number of producing fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf will rise to 24.

Infrastructure and emissions

All new assets are tied back to the Skarv FPSO, maximising processing and export capacity and reducing the need for new facilities. Leveraging existing infrastructure lowers the project carbon footprint, with expected production intensity of 4.5 kg CO2 per boe, and helps extend the FPSO’s operational life to at least 2040.

Ownership and regional supply impact

ORLEN holds 40% of Ørn (Aker BP operator 30%, Equinor 30%), and 11.9% stakes in Idun Nord and Alve Nord alongside Aker BP, Equinor, Harbour Energy and JAPEX as partners. Norway remains a key gas source for Poland via the Baltic Pipe; Baltic Pipe deliveries supplied over 40% of Poland’s gas demand last year, and ORLEN Upstream Norway produced about 4.4 billion cubic meters in 2025. The company plans further production growth through exploration, optimisation and M&A.
