NEXTCHEM Secures Engineering Contract with newcleo for Modular Nuclear Plant Design

Key highlights
  • NEXT-N awarded a EUR 70 million contract for nuclear plant design.
  • Final Investment Decision expected around 2029.
  • Integration with hydrogen and ammonia technologies planned.
  • Minority shareholdings transfer to complete by end of 2025.

Contract Award

NEXT-N has secured a EUR 70 million engineering services contract from newcleo to develop the basic design of the conventional island and balance of plant for a First of a Kind nuclear power plant. This plant will utilize newcleo's 200 MWe advanced modular reactor (AMR).

Collaboration and Expertise

NEXT-N will collaborate with other nuclear technology providers and leverage MAIRE Group's engineering and execution capabilities. The project will benefit from MAIRE's Integrated E&C Solution business unit, including TECNIMONT's modularization approach to optimize construction and planning.

Technology Integration

The project aims to integrate the small modular reactor with hydrogen and ammonia technologies, supporting a safe, reliable, and competitive energy supply for carbon-neutral chemical production.

Timeline and Shareholdings

The Final Investment Decision for the power plant is expected around 2029. Additionally, the mutual transfer of minority shareholdings in NEXT-N (40% newcleo) and newcleo (up to 5% NEXTCHEM) is set to complete by the end of 2025.
