Neste and United Airlines Expand SAF Supply to Three Major US Airports

Key highlights
  • Neste will supply SAF to United Airlines at Houston, Newark, and Dulles airports until the end of 2025.
  • United used over 4,300 metric tons of SAF in the U.S. last year.
  • Neste's global SAF production is 1.5 million tons annually, set to grow to 2.2 million tons by 2027.
  • SAF can reduce GHG emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel.

Partnership Expansion

Neste and United Airlines have expanded their partnership to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to three major U.S. airports: George Bush Intercontinental in Houston, Newark Liberty in New Jersey, and Dulles International in Washington D.C. This makes United the first commercial airline to purchase SAF for use at these locations.

SAF Supply Details

Neste will provide neat Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™, which will be blended with conventional jet fuel to meet specifications. Deliveries began at George Bush Airport in July 2025 and will continue until the end of October 2025. Deliveries to Newark and Dulles started in September 2025 and will continue until the end of the year.

Infrastructure and Production

The SAF is delivered via existing pipeline infrastructure from Neste’s terminal facilities in Houston. Neste's current global SAF production capability is 1.5 million tons annually, with plans to increase to 2.2 million tons by 2027.

Environmental Impact

SAF offers a renewable alternative to fossil-based jet fuel, potentially reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% over its life cycle. It is made from 100% renewable raw materials like used cooking oil and animal fat waste. SAF is certified for commercial use and can be blended up to 50% with conventional jet fuel.
