Moeve Supplies Renewable Diesel at Barcelona Airport

Key highlights
  • Moeve supplies HVO at El Prat Airport, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 90%.
  • HVO is produced from used cooking oils in Palos de la Frontera.
  • Moeve is building the largest HVO and SAF production complex in southern Europe.

Introduction

Moeve has initiated the supply of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a 100% renewable diesel, at its service station located on the airside of Barcelona's El Prat Airport. This marks the first instance of HVO being available at an airport service station in Spain.

Environmental Impact

HVO offers a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, cutting them by up to 90% compared to conventional fuels. This makes it an immediate solution for decarbonizing the airport's ground fleet, which includes all ground vehicles operated by airlines and handling companies at the facility.

Production and Compatibility

Produced from used cooking oils, HVO is manufactured in Palos de la Frontera, where Moeve is constructing the largest HVO and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production complex in southern Europe. The chemical composition of HVO is similar to fossil fuels, allowing it to be used without modifications to existing engines, storage, or distribution infrastructure.
