EEW Advances Flue Gas Cleaning Modernization in Helmstedt

Key highlights
  • EEW invests a mid double-digit million euro amount in Helmstedt's Buschhaus site.
  • Flue gas from Boiler Line 2 was routed through the new Flue Gas Cleaning Line 6.
  • The project was executed during ongoing operations without additional downtime.
  • The modernization aims to improve environmental performance and site competitiveness.

Investment in Modernization

EEW Energy from Waste is investing a mid double-digit million euro amount to upgrade the Buschhaus energy site in Helmstedt. This investment aims to ensure compliance with strict emission limits and maintain the facility's technological edge.

Milestone Achieved

A significant milestone was reached when flue gas from Boiler Line 2 was routed through the new Flue Gas Cleaning Line 6, marking the completion of the initial phase of hot commissioning.

Environmental and Operational Enhancements

The modernization project focuses on upgrading flue gas treatment technology to optimize processes and improve the environmental performance of thermal waste-to-energy operations. This enhances the plant's competitiveness and long-term viability.

Challenges and Implementation

The project was executed during ongoing plant operations, with construction and installation activities carried out alongside regular energy generation. The switchover coincided with the plant's scheduled overhaul, avoiding additional downtime.

Contribution to Sustainable Energy

The TRV Buschhaus facility thermally treats non-recyclable waste, generating electricity and heat. By modernizing the flue gas cleaning system, EEW aims to improve the site's environmental footprint and support sustainable energy and waste management infrastructure in the Helmstedt region.
