Capacity Expansion
Metsä has completed the rebuild of the board machine at its Äänekoski mill in Finland, increasing the mill’s total capacity by 30,000 tons to 240,000 tons per year of coated BCTMP board. Normal production resumed in early May.
Technical Specifications
The board machine, rebuilt by Valmet, features a reel width of 3.7 meters and operates at a speed of 800 meters per minute. The entire machine measures approximately 170 meters in length.
Investment Program
This rebuild is part of a larger investment program announced by Metsä Board, formerly known as M-real, during 2010-2011. As part of this program, Metsä Board also rebuilt board machines at its Simpele and Kyro mills in 2011, increasing folding boxboard production capacities at these two mills by a total of 120,000 tons per year.
