Topsoe licenses SynCOR for HDF Energy’s 250 MW BaseBlue power project in Texas
- 250 MW onsite power plant planned to supply data centers in Texas, targeting operation in 2030.
- Produces approximately 400 metric tons of low‑carbon (blue) hydrogen per day.
- Captures more than 95% of CO₂ from production, about 1.1 million metric tons annually.
- Topsoe will license SynCOR™, provide process design, basic engineering, proprietary equipment and catalysts for the hydrogen production and CO₂ capture units; the project converts Permian Basin natural gas.
Project overview
HDF Energy’s BaseBlue Power project is planned as a 250 MW onsite power plant to supply data centers in Texas, targeting commercial operation beginning in 2030.
Technology and outputs
The plant will convert natural gas from the Permian Basin into low‑carbon "blue" hydrogen and is expected to produce about 400 metric tons of hydrogen per day while capturing more than 95% of CO₂ generated—around 1.1 million metric tons annually.
Role of Topsoe and scope
Topsoe will supply its SynCOR autothermal reforming technology under license and provide process design, basic engineering, proprietary equipment and catalysts for the hydrogen production and CO₂ capture unit.
Purpose and rationale
The design pairs natural gas conversion and integrated carbon capture with HDF Energy’s fuel‑cell systems to deliver reliable, low‑carbon behind‑the‑meter power for data centers where firm supply is needed as demand outpaces grid growth.
