Lhyfe & STRABAG partner on green hydrogen in Germany

Key highlights
  • Co-development partnership between Lhyfe and STRABAG to accelerate green hydrogen (RFNBO) projects in Germany with potential expansion across Europe.
  • Germany's RED III transposition creates a regulated demand framework for RFNBOs, improving long-term demand visibility and accelerating investment decisions.
  • Lhyfe operates four RFNBO-certified electrolysis sites, has two more under construction, manages a fleet of over 80 Type 4 hydrogen containers and about 15 storage sites, and was Europe's largest bulk RFNBO producer in 2025.
  • STRABAG covers the full construction lifecycle for infrastructure, employs ~89,000 people and reports ~€20bn annual output, providing execution and financing capabilities for hydrogen projects.

Partnership

Lhyfe and STRABAG signed a co-development framework to accelerate green hydrogen projects in Germany, with potential extension to other European countries.

Market context

Germany's transposition of RED III introduces binding targets and a regulated demand framework for RFNBOs, improving long-term demand visibility and supporting investment decisions.

Capabilities and assets

Lhyfe operates four RFNBO-certified electrolysis sites, has two additional sites under construction, manages a fleet of more than 80 Type 4 hydrogen containers and about 15 storage sites, and in 2025 was the largest European producer of bulk RFNBO hydrogen from water electrolysis. STRABAG provides end-to-end construction services including structuring, planning, engineering, execution, operation and has experience in financing and investment to support project viability.

Expected outcomes

The agreement aims to speed project planning and implementation, reduce development and execution risks, and combine production, transport, construction and financing expertise to advance hydrogen projects in Germany and, over time, across Europe.
