SK Earthon hits first oil at Lac Da Vang and discovers Lac Da Trang offshore Vietnam

Key highlights
  • First oil achieved on Sept 27, 2026 after facilities finished early.
  • Gross field production expected to reach up to 25,000 barrels per day at full development.
  • Recoverable resources at Lac Da Vang estimated at approximately 60 million barrels.
  • Lac Da Trang North-1X encountered 56 meters of oil-bearing reservoir at a measured depth of 3,834 meters.

First oil and schedule

SK Earthon achieved first oil at the Lac Da Vang development in Block 15-1/05 on Sept 27, 2026, roughly two years after the project was sanctioned in 2024. Murphy Oil, the operator, completed production facilities early and brought the first production well online ahead of the original schedule.

Production profile and resources

The field is currently producing through its first well and Murphy plans phased well additions to ramp output. Gross field production is expected to reach up to 25,000 barrels per day once development is complete, with recoverable resources estimated at approximately 60 million barrels.

Nearby discovery and development options

Partners also reported an exploration discovery at Lac Da Trang North-1X, which encountered 56 meters of oil-bearing reservoir at a measured depth of 3,834 metres. The discovery will be evaluated for appraisal and development; Lac Da Vang facilities could serve as host infrastructure for a subsea tieback given the proximity.

Partnership and strategy

SK Earthon holds a 25% working interest in Block 15-1/05, Murphy operates with 40%, and PVEP holds 35%. SK Earthon said it is applying a clustering strategy across neighboring blocks to improve development efficiency and expand its Vietnamese portfolio.
