KBR wins contracts to revamp AGF Nitrogen ammonia plants in Germany and Austria

Key highlights
  • Contracts cover LAT Nitrogen’s 550 MTPD ammonia plant #2 in Linz and SKWP’s 1,900 MTPD ammonia plant #2 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg.
  • KBR will provide technology licensing, proprietary engineering design, post-BED services, process equipment and catalyst supply, and a new ammonia converter for the German plant.
  • Steam reforming sections at both plants will be modernized using KBR’s KBR Reforming Exchange System (KRES) technology.
  • The revamps aim to reduce natural gas consumption, improve energy efficiency and lower CO₂ emissions, positioning the units among the most energy-efficient in their technology segment.

Scope of contracts

KBR has been awarded contracts to support revamps of two AGF Nitrogen ammonia plants: LAT Nitrogen’s 550 MTPD ammonia plant #2 in Linz, Austria, and SKWP’s 1,900 MTPD ammonia plant #2 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany. Work builds on proprietary engineering awarded to KBR in March 2026 for the Lutherstadt Wittenberg asset.

Deliverables

For both plants KBR will provide technology licensing, post-BED services, process equipment and catalyst supply. For the Lutherstadt Wittenberg plant KBR will also deliver back-end modifications and a new ammonia converter for the synthesis loop, in addition to proprietary engineering design.

Technical upgrades and performance targets

KBR will modernize the existing steam reforming sections at both sites using its KBR Reforming Exchange System (KRES) technology. The upgrades are intended to reduce natural gas consumption, improve energy efficiency and lower CO₂ emissions, with the two units expected to rank among the most energy-efficient facilities in their technology segment.
